The Kaysersberg Christmas market will open only on the weekends of Advent in 2026, from Friday to Sunday, 10am to 8pm. Four weekends are planned, from 27 November to 20 December. Around thirty chalets stand in the Cour de l’Arsenal and behind the Sainte-Croix church. This short format sets the small Alsace town apart from the big city markets. Here are the dates, the programme and our practical tips.
Kaysersberg Christmas market: what are the 2026 dates?
According to the Colmar area tourist office, the market opens three days a week, from Friday to Sunday. It runs over four weekends:
- Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November;
- Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December;
- Friday 11 to Sunday 13 December;
- Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December.
In practice, the chalets welcome visitors from 10am to 8pm. However, the market stays closed from Monday to Thursday. So you need to plan your visit for a weekend.
Where is the market and what can you buy?
The so-called authentic market sits in the Cour de l’Arsenal and behind the Sainte-Croix church, in the heart of the historic centre. In total, it has 30 wooden chalets. The local Christmas association selects the craftspeople, according to the tourist office.
On the stalls, you will find wooden toys, tree decorations and blown glass. In addition, jewellery and lamps complete the offer. For a treat, visitors enjoy bredalas, the small Alsace Christmas biscuits, as well as gingerbread and mulled wine.
A farmers’ market on the town hall square
At the same time, a farmers’ market fills the Place de la Mairie, the town hall square, on the same dates and at the same hours. For example, producers sell herbs, syrups, herbal teas, foie gras and cheese. Besides, you can also buy organic wines and fruit juices.
What else is on around the Kaysersberg Christmas market?
An exhibition on childhood winters
Furthermore, a Christmas exhibition recalls childhood memories of winter, with traditional decorations and snowy scenes. From 27 November to 20 December, it opens Monday to Thursday from 2pm to 6pm. Then, on market weekends, it follows the chalet hours, from 10am to 8pm.
From 21 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, the exhibition opens daily from 2pm to 6pm. However, it closes on 25 December and 1 January.
Three church concerts
- Sunday 29 November at 3pm, Sainte-Croix church, Kaysersberg;
- Saturday 5 December at 5pm, Kientzheim church;
- Sunday 13 December at 4pm, Sainte-Croix church, Kaysersberg.
Why a weekend-only market?
Kaysersberg Vignoble is a merged municipality in the Haut-Rhin department, in the heart of the Alsace wine route. In France, a commune is the smallest unit of local government. In 2017, viewers of a France 2 television programme voted it the French people’s favourite village. Since then, its fame has drawn many visitors at the end of the year.
This compact format has several advantages for a small town. First, it focuses activity on the busiest days. Second, it eases the pressure on residents during the week. Finally, it allows local craftspeople to run a stall without committing to six full weeks. That said, the tourist office does not publish attendance figures for this market.
How should you plan your trip?
