Christmas in Nice 2026 is taking shape: the city’s Christmas village will open on Friday 27 November 2026 and stay until Sunday 3 January 2027. It will fill the Jardin Albert-Ier and Place Masséna, right in the city centre. Entry is free and the village opens every day, according to the regional tourist board. Organisers plan more than 60 chalets, a big wheel and local treats such as socca. Here are the dates, what to expect and practical tips for your visit.
Christmas in Nice: when does the 2026 Christmas village open?
The Nice Christmas village opens on Friday 27 November 2026 and closes on Sunday 3 January 2027. These dates appear on the official event listing. Côte d’Azur France, the regional tourist board, publishes it, and the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolitan tourist office keeps it up to date.
So the village runs for just over five weeks. It therefore covers the whole festive season, including New Year’s Eve and the first weekend of January. The listing also states that the village is « open every day ».
However, daily opening hours have not been released yet. The official listing even warns that hours are « not guaranteed ». It is therefore wise to check with the tourist office before you travel, especially on 24, 25 and 31 December.
For comparison, the city opened the 2025 edition on the evening of Friday 28 November 2025, together with the Christmas lights. That edition stayed open until 4 January 2026.

Where is the Christmas village?
The village sits in the Jardin Albert-Ier gardens and on Place Masséna, the main square of Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes département (a French administrative area similar to a county). Both spots lie between the old town and the Promenade des Anglais. As a result, you can easily combine a seafront stroll with a walk among the chalets.
Access is free. You only pay for what you buy, taste or ride. In addition, the official listing carries the « Famille Plus » label. This French national label rewards destinations that make a special effort to welcome families and children.
How to get there without a car
The city centre gets very busy during the festive season. It is therefore best to use the tram, the bus or simply walk. The local public transport operator publishes routes and timetables. Finally, check any traffic restrictions the city may announce before the opening night.
What can you find at the Nice Christmas village?
According to the official listing, the village has more than 60 chalets. You will find Christmas gifts as well as plenty of food and drink. The listing mentions in particular:
- mulled wine and Christmas beers;
- cured meats and cheeses;
- an oyster and champagne bar;
- socca, the chickpea pancake typical of Nice;
- waffles.
Moreover, the traditional big wheel returns in 2026, according to the local press. It offers views over the sea and the illuminated city. However, ticket prices have not been announced yet.

Why Christmas in Nice matters for the city
Christmas in Nice draws both locals and visitors from France and abroad. Indeed, the mild Riviera climate in December lets you browse outdoors in comfort, which sets Nice apart from the big markets of eastern France.
For shops, restaurants and hotels in the centre, the village weeks are a high point of the low season. It is also a time when tourism businesses can reach a wider audience. That said, the organisers have not published any visitor figures so far.

Practical tips for your visit
First, choose a weekday if you can. December weekends and the French school holidays draw the biggest crowds. Next, come in the late afternoon to enjoy the lights as night falls.
Also, keep an eye on the official listing of the regional tourist board and tourist office: detailed hours and events will appear there.
