The Valence Christmas village welcomed more than 200,000 visitors in 2025, according to the review published by Valence Romans Tourisme, the local tourist office. The organisers report 46 stallholders, one extra week of opening and a 20 to 25% rise in turnover for most traders. These results interest local councillors who want their Christmas market to boost the town centre. Here is a look at the formula and its figures, as the 2026 edition is being prepared.

Valence is a city in the Drôme department, in the Rhône valley of south-eastern France. It chose a longer Christmas market, with chalets grouped by theme. On 30 December 2025, the tourist office, which serves the whole Valence Romans area, published a review it called « very largely positive ». The review also responded to criticism voiced during the festive season.

Valence Christmas village: what were the 2025 results?

According to the review published by Valence Romans Tourisme, the village attracted more than 200,000 visitors. The office notes two peaks in attendance, linked to the rescheduling of the fireworks.

The 2025 edition had 46 stalls: 21 craftspeople, 13 food stalls and 12 resellers, 5 of them for half the period. Thanks to an extra week, the chalets had 31 days of trading.

What did it bring to traders?

According to the tourist office, most stallholders estimate that their turnover rose by 20 to 25%. Some even say they covered the cost of renting their chalet on the first weekend. Moreover, the rental price did not rise compared with 2024.

Loyalty is the clearest signal. Out of 46 stalls, 38 want to come back, 2 will not return and 6 are still deciding. For a town, this return rate is a good sign of profitability. Our guide to becoming a Christmas market stallholder in France explains the rules.

Affordable prices for visitors

The review also highlights affordability. Hot dishes started at 7 euros, or 10 euros with a drink. Crêpes cost between 3.50 and 5 euros.

Which events drew visitors to the Valence Christmas village?

The 2025 programme offered entertainment almost every day. The tourist office lists:

  • 12 concerts, 8 in the evening and 4 on Sundays;
  • 7 days of street performers, mascots and clowns;
  • 8 children’s workshops;
  • 6 days of horse-drawn carriage rides and 6 days with Father Christmas;
  • an educational farm and 4 « Christmas of the animals » days.

In addition, the chalets were grouped by theme for the first time. Finally, some stallholders opened on Christmas Day, from 3pm to 8pm.

What lessons for other towns?

Valence shows three simple levers. First, a longer opening period means more trading days. Second, grouping chalets by theme makes the visit easier. Third, keeping rents stable reassures stallholders.

Of course, these figures come from the organisers themselves. They do not replace an independent impact study. For comparison, major Christmas destinations also publish their figures, such as Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas.
